The food and wine capital of the Langhe, Alba hosts every year in October and November the renowned Truffle Fair, which attracts many tourists as well as celebrities. It is a very picturesque event for the city, filled with people, typical smells and flavours of the local specialities, such as salumi, cheeses and honey... and of course the truffle.
The best way to visit a place is by exploring it on foot: that is what the “Paths of Barolo” are there for - stretching through Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d'Alba, Barolo, Gallo and Grinzane.
It is the only way for you to truly understand the passion behind winemaking, while enjoying an enchanting landscape made of hills that gradually incline, blending their colours in wonderful shades. The paths are pleasant, easy and completely free of any danger, along paved and unpaved roads.
The castle of Barolo - The prestigious seat of the Regional Wine Cellar of Barolo, it combines the historical library, the Farmers’ Museum, the new WIMU Museum of wine and the Corkscrew Museum. Owned by a family of well-known bankers in the XIII century, the castle is only one of the fifty manors owned by the Falletti.
The castle of Grinzane Cavour - Highly renowned like its owner, Count Camillo Benso, who lived there from 1832 to 1849, the castle is the seat of a permanent museum on truffles and local food and wine as well as a famous restaurant. Its rooms still keep the furniture, manuscripts and the tricoloured ribbon of Count Cavour. For information and visits: www.castelliaperti.it
