The Langhe are today an important cultural and touristic heritage in Italy; however, already since the beginning of the last century our hotel has accommodated people from Liguria, Lombardy and of course the rest of Piedmont who came to us for ampelotherapy (from ampelo, meaning grapes). Here, instead of thermal water treatments, we have always preferred grapes, rich in antioxidants and perfect components for your diet with the delicious Dolcetto variety.
The story of our inn starts in the 1920s, when Franchina Anselma, one of the first restaurateurs of the Langhe, together with her husband Felice, winemaker and expert of these places, started her innkeeping business.
This passion was passed down the family from generation to generation, beginning with their children – Giacomo and his wife Rosina, as well as Carlo and his wife Piera – down to their grandchildren: hotel/restaurant manager Grazia, and winemaker Franco.
On the thirtieth anniversary celebration of the Order of the Knights of the Truffle, Armando Gambera wrote: "Right in the old room of the trattoria Italia on 5 November 1967 the first Chapter of the Founding Knights of the Truffle and Alba Wines took place with a menu representative of this land:
Beef Carpaccio with Dolcetto d’Alba 1966
Tajarin of Langa with Dolcetto d’Alba 1964
Fritto misto (mixed fry) with Nebbiolo d’Alba 1961
Toma cheese and bonet (chocolate and amaretti pudding) with Barolo 1958
Coffee and grappa"
